Pécs / Pecs is a 2000-year old city at the foot of Mecsek Mountains in Southern-Hungary with Mediterranean climate. It was founded by the Romans under the name Sopianae. The Basilica is one of the most valuable medieval structures of Hungary. There are more surviving Turkish buildings in the city: mosques, a minaret, tombs and the former baths that works as baths museum. Pecs is the city of museums (Csontváry Museum, Vasarely Museum, Amerigi Tot Collection) and the city of the famous factories founded in the 19th century (Zsolnay Ceramics, Littke Champagne, Angster organ, …). In the downtown restaurants, cafés with pleasant atmosphere, high standard hotels and small cheap pensions wait for the guests. In the Mecsek Park Forest marked tourist routes are available for the visitors looking for an active holiday.
